Description

Slow Cooker French Dip Sandwiches: Tender, slow-cooked beef piled high on toasted rolls with melted provolone, served with rich au jus for dipping.


Ingredients

  • 34 lb beef chuck roast
  • 1 large onion, sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 3 cups beef broth
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire-style sauce
  • 1 tbsp soy sauce
  • 1 tsp dried thyme
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 6 hoagie or French rolls
  • 6 slices provolone cheese
  • 2 tbsp butter (for toasting rolls)

Instructions

  1. Place chuck roast in the slow cooker. Add sliced onion and garlic.
  2. Pour in beef broth, Worcestershire-style sauce, soy sauce, thyme, and black pepper.
  3. Cover and cook on low for 8 hours, or until beef is fork-tender and easily shreds.
  4. Shred beef directly in the slow cooker and let it soak in the juices for 10–15 minutes.
  5. Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  6. Split rolls, lightly butter the insides, and toast for 5–7 minutes until golden.
  7. Pile shredded beef onto rolls and top each with a slice of provolone.
  8. Return to oven for 3–5 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  9. Serve warm with a small bowl of strained au jus for dipping.
