- 1 lb ground beef
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- ¾ cup tomato sauce
- 2 tbsp ketchup
- 1 tbsp Worcestershire-style sauce
- 1 tsp brown sugar
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- 6 slices thick bread
- 3 tbsp butter, melted
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
- 2 tbsp chopped parsley (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
- In a skillet over medium heat, add olive oil and cook ground beef until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks. Drain excess fat if needed.
- Stir in onion and cook 2–3 minutes until softened. Add garlic and cook 30 seconds.
- Add tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire-style sauce, brown sugar, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 5–7 minutes until thickened.
- In a small bowl, mix melted butter and garlic powder. Brush both sides of bread slices.
- Place bread on a baking sheet and toast in the oven for 5–7 minutes until golden.
- Spoon sloppy joe mixture generously over each toast slice.
- Sprinkle cheddar cheese on top and return to oven for 3–5 minutes until melted.
- Garnish if desired and serve warm.
