Description

Crispy Chicken Wonton Tacos are crunchy, flavorful bites featuring golden baked wonton shells filled with teriyaki-style chicken and topped with a fresh slaw for a zippy, crowd-pleasing appetizer or weeknight dinner.

Ingredients

Scale
  • For the Chicken Filling:
  • 1 lb chicken breast, finely diced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1/3 cup teriyaki sauce
  • 1 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp ground ginger
  • 1/4 tsp black pepper
  •
  • For the Slaw:
  • 2 cups shredded coleslaw mix
  • 2 tbsp mayonnaise
  • 1 tbsp rice vinegar
  • 1 tsp honey
  • 1/4 tsp salt
  •
  • For the Wonton Tacos:
  • 24 wonton wrappers
  • Cooking spray or oil for brushing
  • 2 green onions, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp sesame seeds (optional)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Lightly spray the outside of an inverted muffin tin.
  2. Press wonton wrappers between muffin cups to form taco shells. Lightly spray with oil.
  3. Bake for 8–10 minutes or until golden and crisp. Set aside.
  4. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add diced chicken and cook until fully cooked and lightly golden.
  5. Stir in teriyaki sauce, garlic powder, ginger, and black pepper. Simmer for 2–3 minutes until glazed. Remove from heat.
  6. In a bowl, mix coleslaw, mayonnaise, rice vinegar, honey, and salt until well combined.
  7. Fill each wonton shell with chicken, top with slaw, and garnish with green onions and sesame seeds.
  8. Serve immediately for maximum crunch.

Notes

  • Best served immediately for maximum crunch.
  • For a spicier kick, add a drizzle of sriracha to the slaw.
  • To make ahead, keep the chicken filling and slaw separate and assemble just before serving to maintain crisp shells.
  • For a gluten-free version, use gluten-free wonton wrappers and gluten-free teriyaki sauce (not guaranteed in this recipe).
