Description
Chicken Cheese Steak Sandwiches: Juicy, cheesy, and loaded with peppers and onions, this skillet sandwich is a delicious weeknight upgrade.

- 1½ lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts, thinly sliced
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 1 tbsp butter
- 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
- 1 small onion, thinly sliced
- 3 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 tsp paprika
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp Italian seasoning
- 8 slices provolone cheese
- 4 hoagie rolls
- 1 tbsp mayonnaise or butter (optional, for toasting rolls)
Instructions
- Heat olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
- Add sliced peppers and onion and cook for 5–6 minutes until softened. Add garlic and cook 30 seconds more. Remove veggies and set aside.
- In the same skillet, add chicken. Season with paprika, salt, black pepper, and Italian seasoning. Cook 6–8 minutes until fully cooked and lightly golden.
- Return peppers and onions to the skillet and stir to combine.
- Divide mixture into four portions and top each with 2 slices provolone. Cover skillet briefly until cheese melts.
- Lightly toast hoagie rolls if desired.
- Spoon cheesy chicken mixture into each roll and serve warm.
Notes
- You can substitute thinly sliced turkey or beef for chicken.
- For a lighter option, use low-fat cheese or omit mayonnaise.
- Toasting rolls adds extra crunch and flavor.
- Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
