Description

Chicken Cheese Steak Sandwiches: Juicy, cheesy, and loaded with peppers and onions, this skillet sandwich is a delicious weeknight upgrade.


Ingredients

  • lbs boneless, skinless chicken breasts, thinly sliced
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 tbsp butter
  • 1 green bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 red bell pepper, thinly sliced
  • 1 small onion, thinly sliced
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp Italian seasoning
  • 8 slices provolone cheese
  • 4 hoagie rolls
  • 1 tbsp mayonnaise or butter (optional, for toasting rolls)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil and butter in a large skillet over medium heat.
  2. Add sliced peppers and onion and cook for 5–6 minutes until softened. Add garlic and cook 30 seconds more. Remove veggies and set aside.
  3. In the same skillet, add chicken. Season with paprika, salt, black pepper, and Italian seasoning. Cook 6–8 minutes until fully cooked and lightly golden.
  4. Return peppers and onions to the skillet and stir to combine.
  5. Divide mixture into four portions and top each with 2 slices provolone. Cover skillet briefly until cheese melts.
  6. Lightly toast hoagie rolls if desired.
  7. Spoon cheesy chicken mixture into each roll and serve warm.

Notes

  • You can substitute thinly sliced turkey or beef for chicken.
  • For a lighter option, use low-fat cheese or omit mayonnaise.
  • Toasting rolls adds extra crunch and flavor.
  • Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container for up to 2 days.
