Description

Cheesy Garlic Bread Sloppy Joe Melts – a bold, saucy open-faced sandwich featuring savory ground beef on garlicky, butter-toasted French bread, topped with melty cheese.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground beef
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • ½ small onion, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • ¾ cup tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp tomato paste
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire-style sauce
  • 1 tsp brown sugar
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • 1 loaf French bread, sliced in half lengthwise
  • 3 tbsp butter, softened
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced (for garlic bread)
  • 1½ cups shredded mozzarella or cheddar cheese
  • 2 tbsp chopped parsley (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C).
  2. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add ground beef and cook until browned. Drain excess fat if needed.
  3. Stir in onion and garlic and cook 2–3 minutes until softened.
  4. Add tomato sauce, ketchup, tomato paste, Worcestershire-style sauce, brown sugar, salt, and black pepper. Simmer for 5–7 minutes until thickened.
  5. In a small bowl, mix softened butter with minced garlic. Spread evenly over cut sides of French bread.
  6. Place bread on a baking sheet and toast for 5 minutes.
  7. Spoon sloppy joe mixture evenly over toasted bread halves.
  8. Sprinkle shredded cheese generously on top.
  9. Bake for 8–10 minutes until cheese is melted and bubbly.
  10. Slice, garnish if desired, and serve warm.

Notes

  • For extra crispness, broil for 1–2 minutes at the end.
  • Leftover sauce can be stored in the fridge for up to 3 days.
  • Use whatever shredded cheese you prefer (mozzarella or cheddar).
  • To make it lighter, use lean ground beef and reduce butter.
