Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground chicken
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 small bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1½ tsp Cajun seasoning
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ¾ cup tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tsp Worcestershire-style sauce
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • For the Creamy Sauce:
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • 2 tbsp all-purpose flour
  • 1 cup milk
  • ¾ cup shredded cheddar cheese
  • ¼ tsp garlic powder

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add ground chicken and cook until browned, breaking it apart as it cooks.
  2. Add onion and bell pepper and sauté 3–4 minutes until softened. Stir in garlic and cook 30 seconds.
  3. Season with Cajun seasoning, paprika, salt, and black pepper.
  4. Stir in tomato sauce, ketchup, and Worcestershire-style sauce. Simmer 5–7 minutes until thickened.
  5. In a small saucepan, melt butter over medium heat. Whisk in flour and cook 1 minute.
  6. Slowly whisk in milk and cook until thickened, about 3–4 minutes.
  7. Stir in cheddar cheese and garlic powder until smooth and creamy.
  8. Toast buns if desired. Spoon Cajun chicken mixture onto buns and drizzle with creamy cheese sauce.
  9. Serve warm.

Notes

  • Toast buns if desired for extra texture and flavor.
  • Adjust Cajun seasoning to taste for more or less heat.
  • Creamy sauce can be made ahead and gently reheated before serving.
