Description

Cajun Chicken Sloppy Joes: a bold Louisiana-style take on a classic comfort dish, with juicy ground chicken in a smoky Cajun sauce, ready in 35 minutes.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1 lb ground chicken
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • 1 small onion, finely chopped
  • 1 small green bell pepper, finely chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tbsp Cajun seasoning
  • ½ tsp paprika
  • ½ tsp black pepper
  • ½ tsp salt
  • ½ cup tomato sauce
  • 2 tbsp ketchup
  • 1 tbsp Worcestershire-style sauce
  • ¼ cup chicken broth
  • 4 hamburger buns
  • 2 tbsp chopped parsley or green onions (optional, for garnish)

Instructions

  1. Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Add ground chicken and cook until no longer pink, breaking it apart as it cooks.
  2. Add onion and bell pepper and sauté for 3–4 minutes until softened.
  3. Stir in garlic, Cajun seasoning, paprika, salt, and black pepper. Cook for 30 seconds until fragrant.
  4. Add tomato sauce, ketchup, Worcestershire-style sauce, and chicken broth.
  5. Simmer for 8–10 minutes until thickened and saucy.
  6. Taste and adjust seasoning if needed.
  7. Spoon the mixture onto toasted buns, garnish if desired, and serve warm.

Notes

  • Toast buns for extra crunch and flavor.
  • Adjust heat by adding more Cajun seasoning or a dash of hot sauce.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
  • To make it gluten-free, use gluten-free buns.
  • Leftover sauce can be thinned with a little chicken broth if needed.
