Description
Bloody Red Velvet Popcorn is a spooky, crispy snack ideal for Halloween gatherings.
Ingredients
Scale
- 8 cups plain popped popcorn
- 1 cup granulated sugar
- ½ cup unsalted butter
- ¼ cup light corn syrup (or maple syrup for natural option)
- 1 tbsp cocoa powder
- Red food coloring (gel for best results)
- ½ tsp vanilla extract
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ cup white chocolate, melted (for drizzle)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 250°F (120°C). Line a large baking sheet with parchment paper.
- Place popcorn in a large mixing bowl.
- In a saucepan, melt butter, sugar, corn syrup, cocoa powder, and salt over medium heat. Bring to a boil and cook 3–4 minutes, stirring often.
- Remove from heat, stir in vanilla and enough red food coloring to get a “bloody” red shade.
- Pour mixture over popcorn and toss until fully coated. Spread evenly on baking sheet.
- Bake 30 minutes, stirring every 10 minutes to crisp.
- Cool completely.
- Drizzle with melted white chocolate for a dramatic, bloody effect.
- Break into chunks and serve.
Notes
- For a natural color, substitute half the red food coloring with beet juice concentrate or pomegranate juice reduced to a syrup.
- Gel food coloring yields the most vibrant red shade.
- Bake low and slow to keep popcorn crisp and prevent sogginess.
- Cool completely before drizzling with white chocolate to prevent melting.
- Store in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days.
