- 1 1/2 lbs ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup breadcrumbs
- 1 large egg
- 1 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1 tsp paprika
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tbsp olive oil
- 4 medium potatoes, thinly sliced
- 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of mushroom soup
- 1 cup beef broth
- 1 tsp Worcestershire-style sauce
- 2 tbsp chopped parsley (optional, for garnish)
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13-inch baking dish.
- In a large bowl, combine ground beef, chopped onion, garlic, breadcrumbs, egg, salt, black pepper, paprika, and onion powder. Mix gently until combined.
- Shape the mixture into 6 oval hamburger steaks.
- Heat olive oil in a skillet over medium heat. Brown the hamburger steaks on both sides, then transfer them to the prepared baking dish.
- Arrange sliced potatoes evenly around and between the hamburger steaks.
- In a bowl, whisk together cream of mushroom soup, beef broth, and Worcestershire-style sauce.
- Pour the gravy mixture evenly over the steaks and potatoes.
- Cover tightly with foil and bake for 60 minutes, or until potatoes are tender.
- Remove foil and bake uncovered for an additional 15-20 minutes until bubbly.
- Let rest for 5 minutes, garnish with parsley, and serve warm.
Notes
- Leftovers refrigerate well for up to 3 days.
- Reheat gently in the oven or microwave.
- You can substitute cream of mushroom soup with a homemade mushroom gravy if desired.
